WHAT: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush
WHY: We are not huge fans of powder blush to be totally honest with you.
For any of our more mature-skinned comrades, you may have noticed powder blush can sink into lines, sit weirdly on the skin, seem too powdery, and generally look clownish.
So, what even is the point of blush? To look like you’re wearing a circular smear of pink powder? No. The point is of course to look as though you’ve completed a vigorous hike, your cheeks flushed from soul-affirming physical activity, while you now sip a hot chai oat milk latte on a chaise lounge, enrobed in various chunky knits.
And nothing, perhaps not even a real hike, achieves that goal more than this hourglass blush.
Their famous “ambient” bronzer and blush powders are cultish for good reason. And while there looks to be the slightest sheen running through the formula, they glide onto the skin whisper-light to blur pores, texture, signs of aging, any imperfections.
So now, the color. Choosing a blush color often feels like a fools errand.
Pink for pink skin tones? Or peach to counteract it? Do we just choose colors we LIKE and hope they work on our face? Well. Like so much of the makeup industry, confusion is a feature, not a bug. But luckily you truly can’t go wrong with almost all their shades. Nearly everything works on a huge variety of skin tones, and even more importantly, they look utterly natural, utterly effortless, utterly après ski.
We are partial to the shade “mood exposure” and that particular shade comes in a mini size if you don’t yet want to bite the bullet on the bigger size.
But once you try it, you will. Oh, you will.
