WHAT: Westman Atelier Blender Brush
WHY: The person behind these words is me. Hi, I’m Audie. Normally we don’t have a byline on our product reviews because they’re often the result of a big group effort of testing, sharing, discussing.
I wanted to tell you it’s me because I write about beauty a lot. Like this. And this. And this. And because I’m over 40, I usually suggest routines and products that are solution oriented. Because with softening eyelids and new fine lines sprouting up nearly every week, I don’t write about the new thing marketers have tried to convince me I need to finally feel good about myself. I write about the best thing that actually makes a real difference in my life. And that might make a real difference in yours.
It’s especially fun when that thing is only $18 or $14 or $10. But today that thing is $125. And it’s the best money you will ever spend on a brush in your natural life.
The real purpose of makeup, is to enhance our beauty. We don’t want to call attention to the fact that we’re wearing foundation. But to our lovely skin. We don’t want compliments on our bronzer. We want compliments on our vacationy glow. And in my experience as a human woman, the biggest chasm between wearing makeup that helps us look beautiful vs wearing makeup that just looks like makeup, is blending.
Most of us just don’t blend anything enough.
If you want foundation to look like your skin, it isn’t the foundation doing the lion share of the work. It’s the brush. Ditto for bronzer. And concealer. And highlighter.
And this brush, unsurprisingly called The Blender Brush, is like having a makeup artist’s hand, in your bathroom, at all times. Ok, that sounds a little murdery and gross, but it’s just so true. Its nylon bristles are an almost magic combination of soft and dense, and with swirling upward strokes, any cream product you use can be easily, effortlessly, confidently buffed into an utterly perfect, almost polished finish.
Cruelty-free, handmade in Japan, and brilliantly designed with a shorter handle to give more control, this brush has replaced almost every other brush I own. I just never reach for them anymore. Because this one does it all. And this one does it better. My makeup no longer looks like it’s sitting on my skin. But rather, like it is my skin.
The goal, as we age, is to buy less not more. And with fewer things, they need to be be better, more hardworking. I don’t really believe in “soulmates” in relationships. It just feels like some bullshit idea to force us on our heels, like there’s always something better out there. But I think I do believe in having a blender brush soulmate. And I found mine.
There is nothing better out there. And I will never, ever cheat.
