WHY: Browsing the haircare section in your drugstore is one of the most maddening shopping experiences in existence. There are endless products, each focused on one, discrete issue, like strengthening or frizz-control or color protection. And yet, most of us have hair that needs all of those things, not just one or the other. Plus, if you’re being honest, have you ever really noticed a huge difference in your hair? Same.
So when a brand makes custom haircare that claims to do it all— clean and hydrate and strengthen and control frizz and not strip your color— we obviously have to try. Which is where Prose comes in. And we were wildly impressed.
Before you can buy anything, though, you first have to answer a bunch of questions about your hair. The consultation takes a hot min, but it’s well-designed and easy to navigate. You also get to choose your own scent (which was our favorite part); we’ve tried “Botanica” and “Elixir,” and they are both HEAVENLY.
From the consult, you’ll receive a recommended routine of custom products, including a shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask. And whatever you do, you MUST try the Pre-Shampoo Hair Mask, which left our hair feeling like actual silk.
We appreciate that the products are formulated without parabens, sulfates, and GMO’s (to name a few), and that each custom product individually targets our unique needs. But mostly, we just enjoyed using a shampoo that cleans effectively without stripping moisture or color. Which is kind of an anomaly, tbh.
P.S. For anyone with specific allergies or preferences, you can customize your products to be gluten-free, vegan, tree-nut free, or fragrance-free, which is modern and thoughtful and we love it.
