If You Hate How Your Arms Look In T-Shirts, This Will Be Your New, Favorite Shirt That Looks Great With Everything You Own

WHAT: Frank & Eileen Patrick Popover Henley

WHY: It’s not you. It’s the t-shirt. T-shirts cut into the thickest part of our arms and we’re all just supposed to be happy about it? No.

But we also aren’t about to sweat to death every summer, because creating a perfectly temperature-controlled life is a huge part of our happiness now that we’re older.

So what to do?

This is a mission we’ve been on for a long time. And weirdly, tank tops are a good solution. Yes, they show the full arm, but it’s more flattering because we’re not being bifurcated in the worst place possible. We love THIS one, and it’s wildly cheap. We don’t have to wear a bra with it because of the firm ribbing, and we have like 17 of them in various colors in our closet right now.

But…what about when we don’t feel comfortable with our entire arm being exposed like that?

Welp. We found the shirt. And it might be magic.

Enter the Frank and Eileen Henley.

Why?

The fabric is so unbelievably soft, and it’s so lightweight that it feels like a t-shirt. But the collar just…dresses it up a bit. The deeper V is particularly flattering if you have a bigger bust (high necks usually make us all look bigger and rounder) and because the material is so light, it’s also a genius layering piece in the evening under jackets or blazers, like THIS and THIS, and you won’t have a smidgeon of bulk.

And because we know it’s impossible to buy clothes on the internet unless you see them on real, live, non-model people, here’s a few of our fave ways to wear it lately now that the weather is warm, but it can also be cool in the evenings.

It’s just a shirt and jeans! That’s it! But suddenly, it feels like a really thoughtful outfit, because the shirt is perfect, the jeans are perfect, the shoes give some height even though they’re INSANELY COMFORTABLE, and that belt, well, we only searched for a perfect brown belt for 28 years, and that’s the one.

It is our collective opinion that you can do no wrong with a pair of linen pants, and if you’re not a tucking kind of gal, keep the shirt loose and throw a fanny over it for some shape. One of our favorite hacks in life.

The side pic is to prove that it’s also the perfect shirt for when you DO feel like tucking, especially into any of your high-waisted pants. These pants are from the genius Gap x Doen collab, but fish out any of yours lying around and pair them with this shirt. You’ll feel so put together.

This is the definition of “looking cute” while “feeling like you’re in pajamas.” The pleated skirt has an elastic waistband so nothing feels tight, the shirt can sort of haphazardly be tucked and half-tucked, and the shoes give wild height so your legs look 47 miles long AND YET, they’re a massive platform so you have no foot incline and therefore, no foot pain. And, of course, our favorite bag of all time that we write about incessantly.

See how it just makes clothes look good? Maybe it’s the collar. Collars always zhuzh things up, so you’re always just a few ticks more put together than you would be just wearing a regular t-shirt. And even though it’s long-sleeved, it truly feels as lightweight and breathable and gauzy as the breeziest t-shirt you own, so no gallons of sweat under the pits. Sort of a modern miracle. We love the stripe (obviously) but we are eyeing the white and the black for our next splurges.

Ok, the price. This brand is not cheap. Started 15 years ago and still run by Audrey McLoghlin, Frank & Eileen have set out to make the most beautifully made, sustainable clothes in the world. And we think they are. Yes, they are not Amazon prices. Yes, you can technically go buy some scratchy, long sleeved shirt for much cheaper. But for the most-worn, key pieces in our wardrobe, we believe in slow fashion. This is the type of shirt you can wash 400 times, and it’ll still be in perfect condition. And you’ll have it til you’re 80. And beyond.

And it will still be in style. Because classic is always in.

Price: $238
