3 Perfect Examples Of Passive Aggressive Behavior That Are Utterly Maddening

by The Candidly Team

We sort of casually throw around the term “passive aggressive” like it’s some personality quirk. But it’s a deeply damaging communication style that can affect people in an almost gaslight-y way. Like, if you called the person out on it, they would likely act ASTONISHED that you felt hurt by them.

And so we sort of squealed when we saw that licensed therapist, Dr. Brittney Chesworth, created this video on 3 specific ways people use passive aggression to communicate. And they are:

  1. Backhanded compliments

  2. Making wistful statements

  3. Leaving people out

If you know someone who does this, send them this video. Wait. Don’t. It would be passive aggressive.

@drbrittneychesworth We’ve all engaged in or come across passive-aggressive behavior at some point (I know I’ve been guilty of this). It’s just an unhealthy strategy we use when we are afraid to be open and speak our minds. Instead, practice being direct and honest about how you feel and what you think. It’s freeing! #communicationtips #healthycommunicationtips #communicationskills#assertivenesstraining #assertivecommunication #confidencetips #confidencecoach #selfesteemtips #tiktoktherapists #mentalhealthtiktoks ♬ original sound - Brittney | PhD, LCSW
