Cynthia Thurlow Is Someone We Really Like
by The Candidly Team
Cynthia Thurlow is a nutritionist, nurse practitioner, two-time TEDx speaker, and intermittent fasting expert.
She also somehow finds time to host the “Everyday Wellness” podcast, which tackles everything from perimenopause to PCOS to financial wellness.
We like Cynthia.
We asked her our standard 19 questions. Let’s go.
The Candidly Questionnaire
1. What’s something you really like about yourself?
My unwavering positivity, and my ability to think critically.
2. What is your biggest challenge?
Perfectionism. I’m learning to let go and understand that not everything needs to be perfect.
3. What kitchen or house tool do you use daily that’s changed your life?
My Muse (meditation device) helps me stay accountable and focused.
4. When do you feel most confident?
When I’m surrounded by my family and laughing.
5. Are essential oils anything?
They’re not really my thing, but I do appreciate that other people find them beneficial.
6. How do you create boundaries?
By saying “NO” and meaning it without explanation. And by asserting myself when something does not feel aligned with my key priorities.
7. How do you dampen self-critical thoughts when they get too loud?
I move. I walk, I lift, I do a hardcore Solidcore class. Somehow moving my body helps me clear my head. I am open when the “inner bitty shitty committee” is in overdrive. I also talk to the hubs, my close entrepreneur friends, or my team.
8. Describe the most “you” outfit of all time.
Toss up between my Lululemon tights/sports bra/Scuba hoodie, or a really luxurious sweater/camisole, AG jeans, and nice leather boots.
9. What meal can you make the hell out of?
I make amazing fajitas. My kids would say that my baking skill are stellar. I can make a mean/clean pumpkin bread.
10. What book has made the biggest impact on your life?
The Unhealthy Truth by Robyn O’Brien— it changed the trajectory of my life and career.
11. Apart from family, what woman do you deeply admire?
RBG. A pioneer for women, equality for all, and a general badass.
12. Which Insta account is creating the greatest content and why?
Right now I’m really connecting with Chalene Johnson (relatable, great marketing content).
13. What quote or phrase has really stayed with you?
“The older I get, the more I understand that it’s ok to live a life that other people don’t understand.”
14. What’s your most effective form of therapy?
It’s a combination of lifting weights, walking, energy/reiki work, and talk therapy.
15. What’s your approach to mending conflict with people you work with?
I try to be direct and upfront, which solves many problems quickly. Apologize if you are at fault. Be kind. Be compassionate.
16. How do you feel about cilantro?
LOVE IT.
17. Describe your actual bedtime routine.
I start with blueblockers at dusk to support healthy melatonin production, especially if I’m using my electronics in the evening.
I like to be upstairs and in bedtime mode by 9pm; remove makeup/wash face/apply serums/floss/brush teeth/meditate. Then, I either read a book for a few minutes or peruse whatever I’m following on Hulu at that moment.
I slip on a sleep mask and I’m asleep (hopefully) by 10pm….after I have ensured my teens are off electronics and are in their bedrooms. Hugs to the dogs, boys, and hubs.
18. What’s the best thing you’ve ever read on the internet?
I recently watched a TED talk from Ethan Hawke called “Give yourself permission to be creative.”
19. What’s your relationship with bangs?
Definitely a love/hate relationship. I don’t look great with bangs, and the last time I visited this was circa 2006. The photos are all destroyed.
