Here’s Exactly How To Dress “Quiet Luxury” Even If You Don’t Have Shiv’s Trust Fund
by The Candidly Team
If you’re anything like us and have had the brilliant intro music to Succession playing in your head ad nauseam or you can’t sit down at the head of your dining table without seeing the iconic shot of Logan Roy from behind at a board meeting, then this article is for you.
And if you have zero clue what the f—- we’re talking about, than this article is also for you.
The reason is we’re not actually here today to talk about the deep disfunction of the Roy family, though if you want to talk about it, we are 1000% game! Rather, we are here to focus on what they’re wearing. Well, what one of them is wearing. Shiv…naturally.
Shiv’s wardrobe can read a little business-luxury, but there’s no denying how glorious each expertly selected piece looks on her. And so, we decided to go there and find the “quiet luxury” pieces that make sense in our own non-private-jet-setting lives.
While the show itself makes living “luxury” look like a clusterfuck of actually unhinged humans desperately clinging to strands of power, dressing “luxury” is something different. Something far more appealing. Not to mention more attainable.
Because it isn’t actually about $3000 suits and $10,000 handbags. And it isn’t all corporate attire. In fact, the aesthetic of “quiet luxury” is really a simple matter of following a few sneaky little rules that happen to make clothes look yes, more expensive, but also, extra good.
And here’s what they are:
Tailored fit: Everything you wear should curve, fall, and frame your body just so.
Clean lines: No bulky extra layers or fussy frills.
Quality materials: Everything should look rich and well-made. No extra shine, pilling knits, or plasticky leathers.
Neutral palette: Your new best friends are black, beige, white, cream, black, gray, maaaaybe a deep blue, and black.
Solids, solids, solids: Nix any busy prints or loud labels. If you want variety, put one color solid over another. Then, you can occasionally pepper in a few, carefully selected “moments” of bolder colors and prints (as you’ll soon see in some of Shiv’s dress selections).
The “look” of comfort: You never see a Waystar Royco heir tugging at their blazer sleeve or adjusting their perfect-fitting pencil skirt. Luxury means looking and feeling deeply comfortable, which is one rule we especially get behind.
So with that whole spiel behind us, let’s get to the clothes.
