by The Candidly Team
This article is part of our series called "People We Like," in which we highlight interesting women, across all walks of life.
Leaders, great cooks, doctors, parents, writers; people who inspire us.
Today, we’re featuring Bethany Edwards, the founder of Lia Diagnostics, a line of flushable, biodegradable pregnancy tests that are so discreet, accurate, and ingenious, we sort of wonder why no one thought of them before?!
The Candidly Questionnaire
1. What are your most compelling qualities?
Ingenuity, creative problem solving.
2. What’s your worst quality, according to your friends?
Once I set my mind to something, it can take extra convincing to change my mind.
3. What’s an overrated value you don’t buy into?
Neatness. I guess there’s a saying that a cluttered desk means a cluttered mind, but it’s good to be messy sometimes.
4. How do you feel about cilantro?
Into it.
5. Are essential oils anything?
Yes.
6. What's the most effective beauty trick you use?
Trim your eyebrows before reaching for the tweezers (bonus tip: micro-tip sewing Fiskar scissors work great for eyebrow trimming). Also, keep it simple, and invest in quality basics (foundation, blush, mascara, and an eyebrow pencil).
7. How do you get your self-esteem?
This is something I’m actively working on. I’ve found affirmations to be a valuable tool (Etsy has some great card sets). I recently read that if you wouldn’t say your thoughts/beliefs/self-talk to a friend out loud, then don’t say them to yourself.
8. What meal can you make the hell out of?
Ramen...? It’s fair to say that my husband is a much better cook than me.
9. What’s your favorite item of clothing you own?
A black wool mini cape from Theory that I stumbled upon in a thrift store.
10. How do you handle conflict in your closest relationships?
Lead with questions.
11. Who is the most interesting person in the zeitgeist right now?
The dog who is the face of Dogecoin.
12. What Insta account speaks to you deeply?
13. What quote or phrase has stayed with you?
“Your vision of where or who you want to be is the greatest asset you have." —Paul Arden
14. What’s your favorite movie from the last ten years?
Favorite, as in I can watch over and over and still laugh, is Step Brothers.
15. What forms of therapy have changed your relationship to yourself?
Meditation.
16. What’s the most delicious bite of food you’ve ever had?
HiR Fine Dining. In the jungle of Costa Rica, outdoors, rustic, and at the home of the chef— a truly incredible experience.
17. Is social media ruining our brains?
There’s an expectation about it that feels unnatural. It’s definitely changing us; rewriting/rewiring our brains, leading us to question what’s important and what’s real. Have you seen “Fake Famous”?
18. Describe your actual bedtime routine.
We have two miniature dachshunds—one is a puppy and one is 15 years old—so that’s been driving my bedtime routine lately.
My husband usually goes to bed first and takes our older dog upstairs with him. I’ll hang out a bit longer with the puppy downstairs, do a bit more work and read while something from a streaming app is playing on TV. To wind my brain down, I’ll listen to a podcast/audiobook or play Sudoku or Two Dots on the iPad. Once the puppy has settled down I’ll scoop her up, nestle her under a blanket, carry her upstairs, and quietly slip into bed with my husband.
19. What’s your relationship with bangs?
Ex-lover.
