18 Pretty Pieces For Spring That Are In Our Carts Because We Cannot Wait To Be Done With The Cold

by The Candidly Team

Listen, we’re cold. Our hands are cold. Our feet are cold. Our boots are starting to feel like tiny prisons. And our sweaters are starting to pill from overuse.

Point is, we’re ready for spring. Happy, flourishing, colorful, not f—ing freezing spring. And so, we have started to put together a little list of all-star things we cannot wait to wear. It helps us get through the days.

A bit about our criteria:

1) They must be flattering on curves: bellies, butts, all of it.

2) They must be UNtrendy enough for us to wear them for many, many springs to come.

3) They must singlehandedly trick the world into thinking we have our act together when it comes to clothes (because most days we barely have time to fully remove the sleep from our eyes much less “style” a “look.”

Ok, you ready? Let’s jump in.

1. This Flattering Skirt We Aspire To Own In Every Color

Free People Lowen Midi Skirt

The waistline on this skirt inspired us to write an entire article about it. Smooth and polished in the front, stretchy elastic in the back. This means we don’t get that squeezed band of belly pooch sticking out right below the waistline. Everything just falls so smoothly, so floatily (not a word but you get it). It comes in so many good colors. We own at least this many:

But we have more in our carts. Plus, the price is excellent.

2. These Sculpting $50 Kick Flare Cropped Jeans

Bella Stretch Kick Flare Jeans

We put these jeans very high on our list because they also seem like something that should cost a lot more than they do., They have unbelievable stretch yet they keep their perfect, flared shape that is extremely flattering on thicker hips and thighs. They’re jussst cropped enough to make legs look longer and to not look awkward with all our shoes.

3. This Nipping Vest That Equates To Instant Chicness

Madewell 100% Linen Scoopneck Cutaway Vest

We know vests are having a moment in the sun and we said we wouldn’t be doing trendy things but can we really help it when a classic, tailored thing like a vest becomes a trend? We cannot. Vests are arguably timeless. They nip the waist and feel accessible, while coming across very quiet luxury. We love, LOVE that this one sizes up to 24 and has a scooped neckline that frames your chest like nothing else. With any pair of high-waist jeans, you’ll look 7x chicer than if you just tossed on a tank.

4. This Easy And Incredible Fitting Dress That Sells Out In Half A Minute So We're Buying It Now

Z Supply Beachside Midi Dress

You know that dress you reach for all the time because you can just throw it on and be done with it? The one where you don’t have to worry about bra straps or shapewear or whether or not you’re feeling bloated to the moon and back? This is that dress. It’s so simple but so brilliant, smocking beautifully over your chest to hold everything in place then falling into a spacious but not at all frumpy maxi. There’s a reason this dress sells out in every color at lightning speed. Which is why we’re snatching it up early this year. And in multiple colors no less.

Also, and we can’t emphasize this enough … pockets!!!!

8. The Softest Little Spring Sweater

Quince Baby Alpaca-Wool Cropped Cardigan

The cloudlike softness of this sweater is the stuff of dreams, but it’s also the ideal shape we’re always looking for. Unlike so many sweaters that end up fitting sort of frumpy and meh, this one has just the right amount of drop in the shoulder, balloon in the sleeve, and crop in the length to make it extra flattering. It can even double as a shirt. We’re three years into buying one in a new color every spring. And we have no regrets because we reach for them near daily.

9. This Beyond Breathable Ballet Flat

Rothy’s The Square Mary Jane

You are going to get very sick of the words “light” and “breathable” in a minute but it is such a rarity to find a chic, close-toed shoe that is this comfortable and versatile when the weather turns from cool to warm and back again - all in a day. Our feet never feel sweaty. We can walk for miles and miles without foot pain. And the color and print selection make us weak.

10. This Classic Pink Dress That Feels Like Pajamas

Anthropologie The Tommie Cap-Sleeve Smocked Front-Zip Shirt Dress

If you’re sensing a theme in our love for effortless dresses that give us our best, hourglass shape, you are quite correct. But it’s just so hard to find dresses that fit well that don’t make us worry that we’ll slip out here or puff out there. The loooong band of smocking is heaven on our waists. It comes in an incredible color and size range, though we like the pale pink for weddings and other springtime events.

11. These Floral Statement Earrings

Cos Mismatched Floral Earrings

12. This Gauzy, Perfect-Length Button-Down

Z Supply Campo Button Up Gauze Top

Why are more brands not making shirts this length? A white button-down is something we truly believe to be a staple for every elegant gal over 40, but making it so you don’t have to tuck it, and it will still look polished and whittle the waist is just so, so smart. Also the gauze is a dream in spring/ summer when we’re not eager to showcase pit stains.

Price: $74

13. This Relaxed Dress We Can Wear To Absolutely Everything

The A&F Mila Stretch Midi Dress

We know, we know. Another dress. But ugh if this isn’t the shape and print we want to live in til September. It glides over hips and looks extra chic with a black belt. And the straps are both adjustable and thick enough to conceal a bra. There are more colors including the sweetest floral we’ve seen in a long time and all the classic solids. Considering that we could buy three of them for the price of what most dresses of similar quality cost for one, we’re not mad that we want it in more colors..

Price: $110

14. This Denim Bomber Jacket

Avec Les Filles Denim Bomber Jacket

We talk A LOT about the casual perfection of a jean jacket. But we never ever thought to get one as a bomber until we saw THIS wonderful look from THIS wonderful show. Needless to say, we rushed to find one, and turns out, the best one we found happend to be an incredible price.

16. This Stretchy And Sophisticated Maxi Skirt

Splendid Whitney Stripe Maxi Skirt

We have to stop buying into the dumb belief that horizontal stripes are unflattering. They’re actually such a lazy hack for looking more put together. This is especially true on this stretchy skirt which smooths all your bumps and feels so good gliding over curves.

17. These Fancy Sandals That Feel Like Heaven That We'll Be Wearing To All Spring Weddings

Margaux The City Sandal

Every year, we secretly wish we owned a heel that wasn’t boring and ugly that we actually enjoyed wearing to events. What we mean is we want zero foot pain. Zero. But we still want that to-die-for shoe we get excited about that makes all our dresses and skirts and even jeans 10x better. Margaux is the brand we go to for this. They’re doing comfort like no one else, which you wouldn’t even know until you tried them on because the shoes are so artful and stunning.

Price: $345

18. The Lightest, Most Insanely Soft Pajama Pants

Negative Whipped Track Pant and Whipped Henley

And now we get to something that is actually closest to our hearts, closest to who we truly are deep down. And that is “cozy people” who’d rather be in house clothes. It’s easy to layer up in cashmere and silky sweats and thick pajamas in winter, but in spring, having something this soft and light and luxurious to sleep in is very hard to come by. Nothing touches the feeling of Negative’s whipped collection. Nothing. And we understand, as people who’ve had most of their pajamas come from Target’s sale section, this is a lot of money for pajamas. But unlike the Target ones that get stiff and gross after 2 washes and we have to replace yearly, these are a life-improving pair of PJs that stay just as incredible wear after wear after wear.

Price: $190 for the pants, $128 for the henley
