Wendy Lopez And Jessica Jones Are People We Really Like

by The Candidly Team

Wendy Lopez and Jessica Jones are registered dieticians, best friends, healthy recipe savants, podcast hosts, and the brilliant minds behind the addictive-yet-informative Instagram account, @foodheaven. They both have Master’s degrees in nutrition and helped literally write the textbook on it, too.

Sure, they have tons of gorgeous, healthy recipes ideas that we love to bookmark. But they’ve also written enlightening, thoughtful articles that explore everything from how to make nutrition more inclusive to the links between mental health and diet.

We like Wendy and Jess.

So we asked each of them a few questions about their lives, their greatest challenges, and their favorite products.

The Candidly Questionnaire

Our conversation with Jessica:

In a word, what is your biggest challenge?

Energy management.

When do you feel most connected with yourself?

When I’m doing anything creative. Also when I’m watching true crime documentaries on Netflix.

Do you struggle at all with boundaries? How?

Yes, but I’m getting a LOT better at maintaining them. This was a major issue for me a couple of years ago, especially when it came to work boundaries. The thing that helped me most is asking myself, “if I say yes to this now, what will I have to say no to later?” That singlehandedly changed everything.

Describe the most “you” outfit of all time.

A mustard-toned sleeveless top (I literally don’t own any “short-sleeved” shirts due to not being able to stand the inseams..HSP anyone?) and leggings.

What book has made the biggest impact on your life?

Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport.

Why does the word “feminist” get people so wound up?

Does it? I guess I’m not close many folks who get wound up by the word “feminist.”

Do you think social media’s good qualities outweigh the bad?

Honestly, no. Which is why I’ve been reading Digital Minimalism.

Do you have a phobia? How do you deal?

How much time do we have? Let’s start with people encroaching on my personal space. This is especially true when traveling with friends and having to share a bed. I get anxious when people get close to my “side” while sleeping (hey, Wendy). I gently tell them that they are crossing the invisible line, and give them a gentle nudge. That seems to fix everything--at least temporarily.

Describe, in detail, your perfect bedtime routine.

Floss, brush teeth, put on face moisturizer + headwrap + retainer + blue light blocking glasses. Turn on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, lie on couch, start to doze off, transfer to bed, go to sleep. If can’t sleep, watch ASMR videos, repeat.*

What’s your relationship with bangs?

I love a good short bang, it’s but hard to pull off with tight curls. I do it anyway though (and cut it myself).

What is your single favorite:

Jeans brand: Universal Threads at Target

Last-minute gift: A free week of Sunbasket

Our conversation with Wendy:

In a word, what is your most compelling quality?

Resourcefulness.

What kitchen tool do you use every single day and kind of can’t live without?

NutriBullet.

Are essential oils anything?

I’m obsessed with lemongrass essential oil.

How do you dampen self-critical thoughts when they get too loud?

I practice awareness and then detach myself from those thoughts by thinking about the great qualities I have.

What meal can you make the hell out of?

2 minute quesadillas.

Apart from family, what woman do you deeply admire?

Roxanne Gay for being unapologetically herself.

Which Insta account’s stories do you always tap through until the end?

@camillebecerra

What quote or phrase has really stayed with you?

“That which is surrendered is best taken care of.”

How do you feel about cilantro?

I’m on Team Cilantro forever.
