Jeans can be a hotbed of emotions.
Bad pairs make us feel like curling up into our sweats for eternity and good ones make us feel ready to conquer the world.
Keep in mind, nothing changes about us - all that changes is the jeans.
So as tired a cliché it is for us to complain about the woes of jeans shopping, it’s not as tired as we are of squeezing into sub-par jeans.
And that is why we’ve logged our 30,000 hours of stuffing ourselves into denim, and we’ve emerged with good news. There are incredible, joy-sparking jeans out there.
And don’t worry, we’re not about to overwhelm you with an exhaustive list of options you could just as easily find on a Google search.
Instead we have just 7.
7 pairs of very specific jeans that work for very specific reasons. The one thing they have in common is that they all gave us that stunning aha moment you only get when you uncertainly slip on jeans, look in the mirror, and feel astounded.

1. The Ones For Big Butts And Small Waists

It’s very difficult for those of us with rounder bottoms and thicker thighs to find a straight-leg jean that fits well. They taper in weird places and flatten us in others. And if they manage to smoothly glide over our hips, they gap horrendously at the waist. Needless to say trying on these jeans was an emotional moment for us. The fit is extraordinary on curves. They flatter in ways that are hard to describe, so we’ll give you a little visual of them side by side with a typical pair of jeans that doesn’t seem to understand a woman’s body.
They’re high-waisted and supportive and have just the right amount of stretch for us to feel complete comfort while knowing they’ll keep their shape throughout the day.
At this point, we’ve pretty much recommended these jeans to every woman we know and have even written entire articles about them (with many try-on photos included). And the reason is simply that they remain among the best jeans we own. Oh and they’re half the price of designer.

2. The Ones With Different Inseams So They’ll Hit Your Ankle Just Right
If you’re in the market for the chicest, most flattering wide-leg ankle jeans, we’re ready to just bite the bullet and declare that these are them. The shape is perfection, the fit is the kind we only dream about (leg-slimming, waist-nipping etc.), but the feel is also soft and smooth and comfortable in ways you expect more from your joggers than your jeans. They also come in two inseam lengths so they always hit exactly where we want on the ankle. Like so:
Now, the price is higher than we’d normally spend (which led us to write THIS lengthy justification/ love letter to these jeans), but they’re honestly the pair we want to reach for 97% of the time. They also come in the best color selection we’ve ever seen in denim and size in plus and petite. We have zero regrets about the two pairs we own in light and dark wash. Our only regret is our desire to buy more.

3. The Ones For Apple Shapes
J. Crew Factory '90s Vintage Baggy Jean
Anyone with a belly pooch knows the waistline of jeans can feel like a waking nightmare. We are so done with tight waists and spillover round our middles. These jeans have such a casually cool 90s shape that actually looks good on every body type, but for apples in particular, we feel understood by these jeans. Our waistlines feel held in but not restricted. The leg is wide but also slimming somehow. We’d venture to say the price is the best part, but no, it’s the fit. We’d probably have spent twice as much for how good it is.

4. The Ones For Thick Thighs
Madewell The Curvy Perfect Vintage Jean
There is something so classic about the cut of these famous Madewell jeans. This may not make sense to those of you who don’t have rounder hips but they sort of “set” our curves in all the right places. There’s hold to them but also a very comfy level of stretch. And the tailoring makes your legs look inches longer, which is great for those of us with thicker thighs. We wear them belted with all our beloved sweaters because they’re one of our favorite pairs of long jeans to style into fall and winter outfits.
Did we mention they also work with every shoe we own? They size in plus, petite, and tall, and come in non-curvy so every body type can enjoy the benefits of their amazing fit.

5. The Most Flattering Plus Size

If you hang out around here with us at all, you’ve probably seen the pants version of these jeans. We write about them often, because they’re kind of magic in how great they feel and look on every body type but especially on anyone with curves. The same goes for the jeans. The cut is excellent and there’s a lot of stretch that makes them easy to glide on, despite them having that gorgeously French, sailor shape. In fact, with THIS striped tee and a loafer, it is our ultimate French lady uniform. The size range is fantastic, and it comes in 3 washes - all equally fantastic.

6. The Ones For Long Torsos

Mother is another brand that we make an exception and splurge on because they make the most beautiful, lifetime jeans that look like they were tailored just for you. If you’re a tall gal or have a straighter frame, and especially if you have a longer torso, getting one incredible, looooong pair jeans with a wee bit of shape to them is going to feel like a godsend. These jeans elongate our legs in ways that make them worth their weight in gold. And they’re a style we can picture ourselves wearing for the rest of our lives. Chic and timeless through and through, which is exactly what they have to be for us to splurge.

5. The Petite Gal’s Dream
We close with something that actually looks amazing on every single body type. We have yet to find a human this style doesn’t work on. But for petite ladies in particular, these jeans are going to feel like something else. Something you’d maybe given up hope of finding. A style that won’t swallow you or shorten your legs or hit at your feet when it should hit at your ankles. The high-waist makes your legs look longer and the cute kick out leg adds dimension (to use a fashiony term). We wear these jeans with slightly cropped tops and sweaters and comfy boots to makes ourselves look even longer, like so…
