We Scoured The Internet And These 14 Pieces Are All We’re Wearing This Fall

by The Candidly Team

Listen, I’m not going to get all sappy about this. We all know what time of year it is, and we all know how that makes us feel.

So, I promise I’ll spare you the romantic imagery of jewel-toned leaves falling at your feet and steamed beverages brimming with spices seemingly designed to soothe your soul.

But what I will offer you is this: 14 essential, transitional pieces that will elevate your fall wardrobe into a state of structured, chic serenity. These are clothes that make you look the way this season makes you feel: crisp, cozy, elegant, and utterly lovely.

If you know anything about us and fashion, you know we live for a template and hit snooze on a trend. That said, almost all of these pieces can be mixed and matched into combinations that meet the criteria for an unconquerable fashion uniform and are as timeless as they are tasteful.

1. The Dreamiest Pair of Wide Leg Pants

Anthropologie - Maeve Pleated Wide-Leg Trousers

One of the absolute best pairs of wide leg pants we’ve encountered. They’re high-waisted and drape in the most flattering way imaginable.

How we’re wearing it: We love these pants with a tucked in button up as you can see HERE. But they’re also excellent with a fitted top or the only turtleneck we’ll agree to wear.

Price: $148

2. This Perfectly Cropped, Non-Boring Button-Up

Everlane - The Way-Short Shirt

The boxy, cropped cut of this shirt breaks the mold in the best way. Hitting at such a cute, flattering length, it’s much more fun to wear than most button-ups. It might even be our favorite from Everlane as it’s quickly become an essential layering piece.

How we’re wearing it: We could tell you all about how we can’t stop wearing this as an outer layer over everything from midi dresses to denim ensembles, or we could just show you HERE.

Price: $40

3. This Superbly Tailored Faux Leather Jacket

Remi x Revolve Chloe Faux Leather Blazer

Everyone wants to own a leather jacket that’s modern, sleek, and skimming but we also need it to be warm, adamantly easy to wear, and to come in our actual size! Enter this leather blazer. Perhaps you’ve seen a similar style worn by Julia Roberts strolling down the streets of Notting Hill (#13 on our list of iconic film and TV coats). We’re happy to wear it all fall to dress up our daytime looks and to keep our “going-out” outfits from looking a lot less chic when we inevitably pair them with a heavy wool coat or an old sweater.

How we’re wearing it: Obviously, this is one of those pieces where the whole point is being able to wear it with everything, but we think it looks especially good with our favorite jeans being made today.

Price: $140

4. These Truly Chic Clogs That Balance Your Whole Outfit

Swedish Hasbeens Husband Clog

Finding this shoe from the Swedish brand Hasbeens felt like digging up a true treasure. It has all the splendid throwback of a 70s clog, fashioned into a form that’s somehow “elegant?” We know it’s a bit of an investment, but each pair is handmade to stand the test of time and look eternally gorgeous. The shoes are so sublimely comfortable to slip on. Plus, they replace a platform in their ability to balance an outfit (you know, so we don’t look like an upside-down triangle).

How we’re wearing it: We pretty much slip these on with any of our favorite-fitting jeans but especially love them in lieu of platforms with a flare jean like THIS and something a bit cropped like THIS perfect white tee.

Price: $270

5. This Long-Sleeve Thong Bodysuit That Fits in All The Right Places

Skims Essential Long-Sleeve Bodysuit

Bodysuits are all about fit, so when you find one that fits correctly, you tell the world. Which is what we did HERE. But what’s particularly special about this thong version is that it comes in an actual long sleeve, so it transitions to cooler weather, making it a coveted item for fall.

How we’re wearing it: The smooth fit means we can essentially wear It with ALL of our bottoms from our drapiest pants to our most fitted column skirt.

Price: $78

6. These Vegan Leather Pants That Fit Exceptionally Well

Abercrombie & Fitch Curve Love Vegan Leather 90s Straight Pants

A safe choice in leather pants may sound like quite the juxtaposition, but with Abercrombie’s infallible fit, this vegan leather pair looks and feels amazing. They’re high waist, straight leg, and precisely designed for curves, making them so divinely wearable on every shape.

How we’re wearing it: It’s almost too easy to style these pants, but we like to follow this foolproof formula for creating a balanced outfit by keeping it tight up top with a loose fit pant. THIS bodysuit has been a gem for when we don’t want  to worry about tucking in, but a perfectly cropped tank LIKE THIS or a baby tee LIKE THIS will also do just fine. And we know it’s not summer, but we like to pair a thicker pant with a lighter shoe like a strappy sandal. Hard to beat #16 on THIS LIST.

Price: $83

7. The Bag That Goes With Legitimately Everything

Anine Bing Nico Bag

This is the kind of “investment” bag you buy today and use forever. Houndstooth makes your most basic black outfits look chic, and while it’s relatively petite and easy to carry, it holds a HUGE amount. We love buying bags almost more than anything else, because we wear them so much more than any individual piece of clothing (especially neutral bags like this one) so after like four months your cost-per-wear is basically 2 cents. AND you get dressed each day and when you pull out your fresh bag, you always feel as though you’re wearing something new.

Price: $350

8. This Hat That Makes You Look Your Best on Days You Want to Do The Least

Gigi Pip Emma Hat

What a gift it is that our laziest days can become our most fashionable at the drop of a… you get where I’m going with this. A good hat can do amazing things for an outfit. And this Gigi Pip hat is, pure and simple, THE perfect hat. Put it on, and we dare you to tell us different.

How we’re wearing it: We adore it as part of balanced look with a wide leg pant and fitted top. It also looks pretty smart with a denim jacket like THIS ONE.

Price: $146

9. This Effortless Accessory That Turns Clothes Into A “Look”

Everlane The Cashmere Bandana

A bandana you can wear any day of the week must be three things: buttery soft, a heavenly neutral color, and the right size to tie every which way. This one has become a square-shaped savior in our closet, working like magic to swiftly tip an outfit over the edge into a fine-tuned, full-on look.

How we’re wearing it: The point here is ease, so with this one, we truly just tie it around our neck and go. We like it LIKE THIS, especially paired with a moto jacket and our favorite fall hat.

Price: $65

10. A Very Cozy Long-Sleeve Rib Dress

Quince Tencel Rib Knit Long Sleeve Dress

A ribbed midi is one of those flattering staples we just wind up living in. This one is perfect for cooler weather and is somehow only $50.

How we’re wearing it: This is an optimal base layer, so we love it under a boxy denim jacket or this cropped button down shirt.

Price: $50

11. the best fitting turtleneck you'll ever wear

Everlane Pima Micro Rib Turtleneck

I spent many years not really getting turtlenecks, but this one made me see the light. It’s lovely and warm but the material is light and fitted enough to layer. I’m a big fan of all of Everlane’s ribbed styles, so if the turtle neckline is just not for you, ditch it and try THIS ONE instead. It really is a staple you’ll keep coming back to.

And if you’re curious about a few other fall items that Everlane just kind of nailed this season check out THIS LIST.

How we’re wearing it: Like Meg Ryan, forever and always, in When Harry Met Sally (#3).

Price: $50

12. This Impeccably Fitting Blazer That Wears Like a Sweater

J. Crew Cecile Relaxed Sweater-Blazer

It’s a true treat when something exceptionally cozy looks tailored and refined from the outside. Throwing on this blazer feels like wrapping ourselves up in a favorite fall sweater, but by some sublime trickery, makes our entire look immediately seem intentional and put-together.

How we’re wearing it: How aren’t we wearing it is a better question, but we reeeeally like it over a denim ankle jean paired with a cool loafer to achieve something much like the effortlessly chic look from Reese Witherspoon, seen HERE at #10.

Price: $168

13. This Hands-Down Most Comfortable Legging in the World

Beyond Yoga Spacedye Out Of Pocket High Waisted Midi Legging

There’s frankly nothing that compares to the softness of this legging. We live, love, and lounge in them 24/7. We talk about them incessantly. They hug in all the wonderful ways that bring out the best in our body shape. They make us happy. We’re currently wondering why we’re not wearing them at this very moment.

How we’re wearing it: Like the most comfortable legging known to man, so everywhere, everyday, occasionally even to work out in.

Price: $99

14. This Washable Slip Skirt

Quince Washable Silk Skirt

We’re partial to things that can make you look instantly dressed up but still feel supremely easy to throw on. This slinky skirt is silky without being clingy. The fabric has the right hold and thickness, so it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a flimsy slip. Add to the mix that it’s WASHABLE and only $60, and this becomes a must-have in our closet.

How we’re wearing it: With a sweater, because… fall. And it makes us think of Katie Holmes. AND because we’re in love with THIS particular sweater that pairs perfectly with a slip skirt and our best everyday booties.

Price: $59.90

BONUS: Because a few more things were just too special not to share.

  • For an oversized knit piece you can layer over EVERYTHING, we still have big feelings for THIS Free People kimono sweater.

  • A gorgeous pair of tall boots that come in a wide leg, so they actually fit over your calf. We found them, at last, HERE.

  • THIS tie-neck top turns a classic white button-up into an iconic Parisian look.
