These Are The Sandals We Didn’t Know We Needed. And Now They’re All We Wear

WHAT: Ancient Greek Sandals Kansiz

WHY: Sandals are so hard. Shoes are hard in general, but sandals specifically seem to be either really comfortable and hideous or chic and painful.

Or, you know, just sort of cute and sort of comfortable but basically utilitarian and boring and certainly nothing that thrills us when we catch a glimpse of ourselves in the reflection of the store window as we walk by.

And so most of us just resign ourselves to these being the 3 categories for sandals. We compensate by making sure our clothes are cute, to make up for the fact that what’s on our feet feels stupid or painful or, worse, just not us.

But today, a 4th category just emerged. And when we tell you we raced to our computer to write this article to tell you about it, there is no exaggeration there. We even stubbed our toe. And speaking of toes, let’s behold this sandal unicorn together:

Are these sandals not like the most elevated flip flop you’ve ever seen? The minimalist lines, profoundly elegant. The amount of foot showing, a revelation. And this is sort of weird to even say, but aren’t they sort of…flattering? Like, how can a shoe be flattering but these…are?

But here’s the real problem-solving dream about these sandals: you can wear them with anything and they make your entire outfit look put together. Even if it’s not.

Let’s tour some examples, shall we?

First, a throw together jeans and button down ensemble, made magically into something thoughtful by these sandals:

Next, an overtly mismatched sweatshirt/skirt combo, made almost elegant by these sandals:

We said ALMOST.

And here’s another mostly mindless jeans look but slightly smarter as the brits say. Made infinitely more interesting by, yes, these sandals!

And lastly, and the most obvious of the bunch, but now we want you to imagine this dress with some stupid clunky platform shoe, or a block heel, or a flip flop, or a chunky sandal you bought for comfort, and we think, if you’re being really honest, this sandal is the perfect, perfect choice, that none of us knew we were even looking for.

But here’s the really exciting part.

They. Are. As. Comfortable. As. Your. Most. Comfortable. Sandals.

We’re not entirely sure how they do it, but they’re handmade in Greece by a company called, sensibly enough, Ancient Greek Sandals, and this particular style sits within their “comfort soles” collection, and it is APTLY named because these sandals feel like an actual cloud.

When multiple straps are involved, we typically get scared—there’s just too much potential for skin-slicing or blistering or chafing. But these straps feel like nothingness. And the squish-factor of the soles is pillowy and puffy and perfect. Firm enough to feel support, cloud-like enough to have zero foot pain after walking for many miles. Yes. We have tried it. Zero. Pain.

Now that we’ve fallen in love with this brand, we are now eyeing THESE for even more height and THESE to replace our Birkenstocks that make us mildly sad, but for now, we will be wearing these minimalist, chic, unlike-any-other sandal we’ve ever worn with….essentially every single outfit we have.
