9 Cozy Fall Sets You Can Proudly Wear Outside The House

Head-to-toe chicness. Zero effort.

by The Candidly Team

We’re not gonna pretend to be originals here. Fall is our favorite season for getting dressed. How could it not be?

The coziness. The layering. The accessories.

Unlike summer when we’re all just trying to wear as little as possible without looking salacious, suddenly, it feels like there are endless options for looking chic.

But here’s the thing. While there are many crisp, autumn mornings where we wake up amped to assemble a good outfit, there are an equal number of days where we just don’t have it in us. In other words, we just want something quick and comfy and chic where we don’t have to think about what shoe goes with that coat or how the hell to tie a scarf without looking like a jackass.

There is a solution - the set.

Formerly seen exclusively as “house clothes” or loungewear, the set has come a long way, my friends. There are some genuine gems out there that are luxe and sophisticated, some knit, some cashmere. ALL exquisitely comfortable.

These 9 perfect sets have been an answer to our cozy-chic prayers. Yours too, we hope.

Let’s see, shall we?

1. Free People Hailee Cardi Set

It’s a damn shame that Free People gets written off as a boho brand for 20-somethings, because the quality and fit of their clothes is something truly special for women in their (our) 40s. And they are nothing short of masterful at creating sets. You’ll see us rave about their famous Freya set later, but this one, with its lovely texture, cocooning cardi and high-rise jogger pant, is such heaven to wear, you hardly expect all the compliments or questions about where you got it to fly your way. But they keep coming. Comes in an astounding 18 colors - all good - how?!

Price: $128

2. Z Supply All Day Knit Denim Jacket And Hunter Knit Denim Pant

We wrote all about this knit denim jacket a little while ago, because 1) there is nothing else quite like it and 2) it fills a hole in our wardrobe we didn’t know we had. Key attributes include that it’s soft and easy and effortlessly cool and matches everything. It comes in 4 shades of denim and 3 other pretty colors. It has clean, jean jacket lines but feels like your favorite hoodie. Okay, now we get to the really exciting part. It now comes as part of the cutest set. The matching pants have the same stretchy comfort, but they’re wildly flattering. The assembled set makes us look taller and slimmer, but we also look like we’re wearing clothes, even though we feel like we’re in pajamas.

Price: $129 for the jacket, $79 for the pants

3. Negative Club Pullover And Flare Pant

Negative has some sort of Rumpelstiltskin-like magic going on behind the scenes that is making their loungewear the softest, most luxurious feeling pieces to ever touch our skin. This new set is no exception. But then there’s the cut, which is sooo flattering, especially on curves. See how the pant kicks out just enough to give you balance and make you feel like you’re wearing pants instead of pajama bottoms? The pullover has the collar and neckline to make us look very “put together” but pay attention to the length not being too long, so our waists look nipped. The silhouette is so gorj, we wear it everywhere. And the comfort we feel genuinely improves our mood.

Price: $140 for the pullover, $140 for the pants

4. Quince Mongolian Cashmere Full-Zip Hoodie And Sweatpants

Speaking of mood-enhancing comfort, this entirely cashmere set from Quince has topped our Christmas list year after year (both as a gift we give others but also the one we give our spouse because we inevitably want it in another color). It’s soft, creamy cashmere in a cool, wearable style. And for a price that is alarmingly low for 100% cashmere.

Price: $100 for the hoodie, $100 for the pants

5. Free People Freya Sweater Set

Alas, we have reached the famous Free People Freya set - the one that sort of made the original case for how a cozy set can be wearable in public. We wear this to work, to brunch, to travel in. And if we happen to catch our reflection, we feel instant happiness. The drop shoulder looks so good on arms, and the way it’s cut makes it skim over bellies and bigger hips, never looking a smidge frumpy like so many sets can. It also has a weight to it that’s hard to explain, but it makes it so you never want to take it off. Because of all this, we found it necessary to own it in black and cream and one “fun” color that “sparks joy.”

Price: $128

6. Cozy Earth Bamboo Jogger Set

We’ve been talking about these joggers for a looooong time, though we admit, Oprah was the first one to talk about them. But let’s face it, if we’re in the market to buy the most decadently soft, cozy lounge set on earth, who better to tell us what that is than Oprah? Bottom line is, she was right about this one. This is the set we fantasize about living in - buttery soft and breathable. But see how it’s not too thick? So it looks sleek enough to wear under a winter coat and come off very polished and “quiet luxury.” This is also the set you’ll want to gift any special humans in your life, because it will be their favorite thing to wear.

Use the code CANDIDLY to get 35% off.

Price: $165 for the joggers, $130 for the crewneck (but everything is wildly on sale right now)

7. Splendid Georgie Cashblend Tunic Cardigan and Rib Pant

The sweater alone is something we’ll wear daily with jeans, but the pants are too pretty to pass up. They’re stretchy, soft, and wide-leg, making our legs look inches longer.

Use the code CANDIDLY20 to get 20% off.

Price: $188 for the cardi, $168 for the pants

8. Quince Mongolian Cashmere Fitted Midi Skirt and Polo Sweater

For those of us really committed to this cozy-chic lifestyle, this set is extra special. Quince is doing buttery cashmere at a wildly low price. Their cashmere column skirt is the most flattering skirt shape, and it’s great for balancing out our more oversized sweaters and layers. We know the photo shows a cropped cashmere tank (which FYI makes a great base layer) but we love it with this undyingly chic, matching polo sweater. Add some white sneaks, and you have yourself the most quiet luxury combination on this list.

Price: $100 for skirt, $80 for the sweater, $40 for the tank

9. Free People Trina Set

For the days you feel bloated and blah and like you need copious amounts of cloud-like softness to enshrine you, but sure, you’d also love to look pretty, here is the set for you. Free People, again … Of course.

Price: $128

Bonus: Tkees Air Whipped Crew and Sweatpant

We’d be remiss not to bring up our favorite sweat set on the planet. We call it a “bonus” because Tkees is really toying with our emotions by first saying they’re not doing any clothes anymore, and now they’re dipping their toe back into sets. But we have LOVED them from day one, so just in case they dare threaten to stop selling it again, we’ll be buying this set in every color we can get our hands on.

Price: $60 for the sweatshirt, $68 for the sweatpants
